DISNEY İÇİN "ALİS" TESTİM- MY "ALICE" TEST FOR DISNEY

Disney'e girebilmek için, portfıolio beğenildikten sonra bile, bir de test yapmak gerekiyordu. Bu benim 1996'da yaptığım test. Verilen problem şuydu: Alis fincanına çay dolduracak, fincanın içinde birşey görecek ve şaşıracak. Ne gördüğü bana bırakılıyordu. Ben filmdeki deli kediyi çizdim, tişörtündeki "T" hem kelime oyunu ("T-shirt") hem de ismimin baş harfi. Bu animasyonu geçen gün eski kayıtların arasında buldum ve çok sevindim, paylaşıyorum. Hayatımın en zorlu ama bir o kadar zengin ve mutlu ikibuçuk yılı böyle başlamıştı.

ENGLISH

Even after a positive evaluation of a portfolio, Disney requires a test. This was the test I animated in 1996. The brief was as follows: Alice pours tea in her cup, sees something in the cup and is surprised. What she sees is left to the applicant. I went for the Cheshire cat. The "T" on his "T-shirt" is not only a pun, but also my initial. I found this animation among old recordings the other day and was really happy about it, so I am sharing it. It marked the beginning of the professionally hardest but also the richest and happiest two and a half years of my life.

Having done some illustrations for the Dumlupınar University Animation event 2011 (see "Animation Event in Kütahya", 21 Şubat-February 2011), I decided to put together a title sequence based on the same concept. This is the result.

Kütahya Dumlupınar Üniversitesi bu sene de yıllık animasyon etkinliğini gerçekleştirecek (27-28-29 Nisan)! Etkinlik için Kütahya çinisinden bir "fenakistoskop" tasarladım. Koşan fareciğin animasyonu gerçekten işliyor; baştan animasyon olarak çizildi ve test edildi! Festival tanıtımı için yaptığım  illüstrasyonda da fareciklerim Kütahya seramiğinden yapılma "fenakistoskop"'u deniyorlar!

The Dumlupınar university in Kütahya will be repeating its annual animation event (27-28-29 April)! For the event I designed a "phenakistoscope" made from the famous Kütahya ceramic. In this illustration I made for the event you can see my little mice trying out a "phenakistoscope" made of Kütahya ceramic. The animation of the little running mouse really workls; it was first drawn as animation and pencil-tested. I also made a drawing of the two mice, Biki and Viki, trying out the phenakistoscope.

"KARMAKARIŞIK" DUYGULAR- FEELING ALL "TANGLED" UP

Karmakarışık ismli Rapunzel hikayesini gördüm ve beklemediğim kadar beğendim. Üç boyutlu bilgisayar canlandırması olmasına rağmen Glen Keane'in çizgilerini görür gibi oldum- belki de onları gördüm. 1997-98'de onun ekibindeydim ve bu film o zor ve zevkli Tarzan günlerine geri götürdü beni biraz! "Karmakarışık" oldum tatlı bir şekilde.

Bilvesile yine 2002 yılından kullanılmayan bir "Rapunzel" canlandırmamı koyuyorum yine! (Aynı zamanda bkz: "Rapunzel", 12 Ocak 2011.) Önce Simsala Grimm, sonradan Happily N'Ever After (Türkçe başlık "Masallar Diyarı") olarak bilinen bu prodüksyon sonradan üç boyutlu bilgisayar canlandırmasına çevrilmişti.

I saw Tangled and liked it much more than I thought I would! Though all CG, it felt like I was watching Glen Keane's drawings, and maybe I was! I had been in his team back in 1997-98 and this film took me back to those difficult and exciting Tarzan days. I ended up with pleasantly "tangled" feelings!

I take this as an excuse to upload another unused "Rapunzel" animation of mine from 2002. (See also "Rapunzel", 12 Ocak-January 2011.) This was experimental animation for Simsala Grimm, which eventually became Happily N'Ever After, a CG film.

RAPUNZEL

Bugünlerde Tangled ("Karmakarışık") filmiyle Rapunzel  ortalıkta boy gösterirken hatırladım ki ben de vaktiyle o masal karakteriyle deneysel animasyon yapmakla görevlendirilmiştim. Proje hiç gerçekleşmedi, daha doğrusu çok farklı bir şekide gerçekleşti. Simsala Grimm başlıklı bir Alman prodüksyonuydu, sonra ismi Happily N'Ever After (Türkçe başlık "Masallar Diyarı") olarak değişti ve nihayet üç boyutlu bilgisayar canlandırmasına dönüştürüldü. 

Bu, Rapunzel karakterle 2002'de yaptığım iki sahneden biriydi.(Bkz. "'Karmakarışık' Duygular", 21 Şubat 2011.)

With Rapunzel making the rounds with Tangled these days, I remembered I was once called upon to make some experimental animation with that fairy tale figure, for a project that never saw the light of day- as it was originally intended anyway. That was Simsala Grimm, a German project which was renamed Happily N'Ever After, and was eventually turned to CG. 

This is one of my two Rapunzel scenes from 2002.(See also "Feeling All 'Tangled' Up", 21 February 2011.)

KÜÇÜK DAHİYLE YENİ YIL GECESİ- NEW YEAR'S EVE WITH THE LITTLE GENIUS

En dertli anlarımda bile beni müziğiyle ferahlatabildiği için Mozart'a özel bir yakınlık duyarım. Küçük yaşta besteler yapan ve muzip, şakacı kimliğini ve neşesini kısa ve problemlerle dolu hayatında hiç kaybetmeyen besteciyi çocuk olarak görüntülendirmek hoşuma gidiyor. 9 yaşında yazdığı bir flüt ve piyano kompozisyonu (KV 14 sayılı 5 numaralı sonatının Allegro bölümü) beni bulaşıcı neşesiyle büyüler ve aslında çocuk Mozart karakterini o müzik eşliğinde canlandırmayı hayal ederim

Yeni yıla çizerek, tercihen animasyon yaparak girmek geleneğini bu sene de gerçekleştirebildim. Bir çok defasında olduğu gibi bu sene de karakterim küçük Wolfgang Amadeus'du. İtiraf etmeliyim ki sahne ancak on günde bu hale ulaştı!

I feel a special affinity for Mozart because his music has provided me with cheer and consolation in moments of despondency and sorrow. I enjoy drawing him as a child; he was after all a child prodigy who never lost his optimism and sense of fun throughout his short and often tragic life! A childhood composition (KV 14 Sonata number 5, KV14, Allegro, composed when he was only nine) always charms me with its infectious cheer and humor. I dream of animating my little Wolfgang character to accompany that composition! 

Once more, I was able to stay faithful to my tradition of drawing, preferably animating into the new year. The protagonist, as so often before, was little Wolfgang Amadeus! I have to admit it took a full ten days to bring it to this stage!

Her sene kendi yılbaşı tebrikimizi kendimiz yaparız ve eş dost ve arkadaşlarla paylaşırız. Bu da bu seneki! Fikir, Lâle'nin köy evindeki yeni bahçe mutfağı ve içindeki şömineden geldi.

Every year we create our own seasonal greeting and share it with relations and friends. This is what we made this year! The idea refers to Lâle's new "garden kitchen" at her village home and the cozy fireplace within.
