Taraf gazetesinin 20 Ocak 2010 sayısının "FATİH CAMİİNİ BOMBALANACAKTI" sürmanşetiyle başlayan "Balyoz Darbe Planı" iddiaları yüzlerce subayımızın düzmece deliller, yalancı tanıklar ve sözde mahkemeler aracılığıyla hapsedilmesine sebep olmuştu. Bu saçma iddiaların hiçbirine inanmamış, asıl hedefin Atatürk'ün kurduğu lâik Türkiye Cumhuriyeti ve onu korumakla görevli Türk Silahlı Kuvvetleri olduğunu görmüştüm. Yalancının mumu yatsıya kadar yandı ve 20 Eylül 2012'de uzun hükümler giymiş olan Balyoz mahkumları geçtiğimiz 19 Haziran 2014'ten başlayarak tahliye oldular- tıpkı 7 Mart 2014'te tahliye olan Ergenekon iftirasının kurbanları gibi! Tükürdüğünü bigüzel yalamak durumuna düşen başbakan Erdoğan ve AKP hükümeti suçu pişkince eski ortağı yeni rakibi Fethullah Gülen "Cemaati"'nin üzerine yükleyerek pişkince sıyrıldı, ve yapılanların pekâla da suçortağı olan başbakanımız bugün cumhurbaşkanlığına koşuyor! Aşağıdaki canlandırma çalışmasını 12 Eylül 2010 anayasa referandumu öncesinde yapmıştım. "Askeri darbe" söylemini dillere dolayarak "sivil darbe" gerçekleştiren hükümetin sırf kendi elini kuvvetlendirmek uğruna yaptığı anayasa değişikliklerine karşı çıkarken o sıralarda daha taze olan "balyoz" iftirasına da gönderme yapıyorum. Bunu canlandırmayı gerçekleştirdikten sonra elektronik posta yolulyla arkadaş ve tanışlarla paylaşmıştım.

 The "Sledgehammer Coup Plot" allegation first hit the public in the face on January 20th, 2010, with the bombastic headline of a newsrag named Taraf. The headline went "They were going to bomb the Fatih mosque". According to the newspaper, the Turkish Armed Forces had been plotting a secret operation, codename "Sledgehammer" (Balyoz) with the aim of creating a climate of anarchy as an excuse for staging a coup. Taraf claimed the Armed Forces were willing to bomb our own mosque and shoot one of our own planes to reach this end. What followed was a widespread roundup of officers, recalling the similarly unfounded "Ergenekon Terror Organization" witchhunts that had preceded it. It was clear and obvious to many, including myself, that the true target was the secular Turkish Republic, as founded by Ataturk, and the Armed Forces that were sworn to defend it. The lie could be mantained only so long. The "Sledgehammer" inmates were released starting June 19th, 2014, less than two years after being condemned to long sentences, including life, on September 20th, 2012. Similarly, the Ergenekon inmates had been released en masse this past March 7th. One would think the AKP government would suffer a severe loss of credibility after the collapse of allegations it so strongly backed, but amazingly, prime minister Erdoğan managed to shift the entire bame on erstwhile partner in crime Fethullah Gülen, the "Imam of Pennsylvania", and his "Community". Now the whitewashed prime minister is running for presidency. I made the animation above prior to the constitutional referendum of September 12th, 2010. At the time the AKP government was soliciting extensive constitutional amendments in order to strengthen its own hand in transforming the secular Turkish Republic into an Islamist theocracy, exploiting the specter of a military coup in order to execute a civilian one. I freely used the "sledgehammer" image, so topical at the time. I then sent this animaton to friends and acquaintances by e-mail. The first caption says "Now it's in the hands of the electorate", the second one says "a civilian response to a civilian coup" followed by "no", the third says "to the ballot box for the response". The larger part of the electorate chose to support the AKP's amendments nevertheless.

Ülkemizde adaleti paçavraya çeviren, kalkınmayı sıcak parayla yaparken halkı ortaçağ ümmetçiliğine yönlendiren bir partinin kendisini "Adalet ve Kalkınma Partisi" olarak tanımlaması kargaları bu hâle getirirken bazı insanlar neden hâla görmüyor? Bu canlandırma denemesini tamamen kişisel olarak 2011 seçimleri için yapmış ve internet'te arkadaş ve tanışlarla paylaşmıştım. Şimdi yaklaşan yerel seçimler vesilesiyle bu blog'da tekrar paylaşıyorum. Karganın sesi de kendi sesimdir aslımda!

In Turkish, "even the crows laugh" is an idiom expressing a blatant, painfully obvious absurdity. That a party notorious for corrupting justice to remove potential political enemies and building up a retrograde fundamentalist consumer society on borrowed money could call itself "The Party for Justice and Progress" is just such an absurdity. Sadly, crows are more observant than much of the voting public. I made this animation before the elections of 2011, strictly personally, and shared it with friends and acquaintances online. Now, with the municipal elections approaching (the day after tomorrow) I've decided to share it again here. The croaking laughter is my own voice.

Bir seneyi daha geride bıraktık, ama ne seneydi! Korku, avantür, polisiye ve casus filmi janrlarının karışımı sonu gelmez bir kötü bir filme benzeyen on seneden sonra ümit dolu bir Haziran direnişi yaşadık 2013'te. Another year over, but what a year it was this time. The past decade in Turkey was like being trapped in a interminable B movie that's a strange mixture of horror, adventure, whodunnit and espionage genres. 2013 saw a flash of hope with the June uprising, also known popularly as the Gezi resistance, after the name of the park that was at once the reason and the focus of the sensational public show of defiance against a repressive and regressive regime.
