Paris Disney stüdyosunda çalıştığım günlerede ilk defa Mulan dan sahneler görmüştüm. Yıl 1996, Herkül filminde çalışıyorduk. Mulan Florida stüdyosunda yapılıyordu ve muntazam aralıklarla kendi testlerimizle birlikte prodüksyon hâlindeki diğer Disney uzun metraj filmlerinin de testlerini gösteriyorlardı- gaza gelelim diye!
Mulan sahneleri beni çok etkiledi, halâ da en sevdiğim Disney filmleri arasındadır. Biliyorsunuz filmin kötüleri Hunlardı, hem de pek karizmatik kötülerdi bu Hunlar. Biz Türkler de Hunları atalarımız saydığımız için iş arkadaşlarımla bir "Hun" muhabbetine girdik.
Komik bir detay: "h" harfini söyleyemeyen, son harfleri de yutan Fransızlar Hunlara "ö" diyorlardı, çoğul için de "les ö"! Neden bahsettiklerini anlayana kadar biraz geçti!
Neyse, hem muhabbeti oluyordu,hem de sık sık Mulan'dan yeni sahneler görüyordum, o ilhamla bu animasyonu yaptım- tamamen özel ve işle alâkasız! Son yıllarda biliyorsunuz ülkemizde bir "Ergenekon" muhabbetidir gidiyor; ama eski Türk destanından bahsetmiyorlar! O konuya girersek bu blog için fazla politik olacaktır; öyle konulara başka tarafta değiniyorum zaten! Ama kelimenin ağızlara sakız olması bu eski animasyonumu arayıp ortaya çıkarmama vesile oldu. Yaptığımda bu karakter bir Hun atamızdı ama pekalâ Ergenekon vadisinden çıkan bir atamız da olabilir. Paylaşıyorum!

When I was working for Disney Paris- the year was 1996, the project Hercules, we used to see the "dailies" of all Disney animated features in production on a regular basis, to keep the creative juices flowing. That's when I saw scenes from Mulan for the first time; it was in production at Disney Florida then.
I was very impressed, it's still one of my favorite Disney films. The charismatic villains were the Huns, and since we Turks consider them our forefathers, I got into a lot of Hun talk with my colleagues in the studio.
The French can't produce the "h" sound, and they tend to swallow the last letter of a word, so they kept calling the Huns "les 'eu". It took me a while to catch on to what they were talking about!
All those Mulan scenes and Hun talk inspired me to animate this scene of a "Hun"; a completely private bit of animation. I have labeled it "Ergenekon", rather provocatively because it's a hot word today. "Ergenekon" is really an ancient Turkish saga, but the word has gained notoriety in Turkey recently because it has been used repeatedly within the context of a shadowy political purge process. I wont go into it because this is not a political blog; that sort of stuff I write elsewhere. It's just that the word has been done to death in the last few years, and it prompted me to fish out this old piece of animation and share it with you. An ancestor who is a Hun will also pass for an ancestor from the mythical valley of Ergenekon!
