Ülkemizin yoğun gündeminde Nuri Kurtcebe'nin çizdiği bir karikatür yüzünden mahkemelik olup bir de ceza yemesindenn bahsetmekte çok geciktim. Kendisini şahsen tanırım; kişiliğine, açıkyürekliliğine, sanatına bağlılığına son derece saygı duymuşumdur ve duymaktayım. 11 ay 20 gün hapis cezası, ama mahkemenin bir de jesti var: cezayı 5 yıl ertelemiş, eğer bu süre içerisinde aynı "suçu" tekrar etmezse kurtuluyor. Böylelikle Kurtcebe'nin kalemini kırmak istiyorlar!
2006'da Maltepe Üniversitesi Güzel Sanatlar Fakültesi'nin Animasyon bölümünde öğretim görevlisi olarak çalışmaya başladığımda Nuri Kurtcebe de aynı yerde öğretim görevlisiydi. Kendisiyle tanışmış olmak bana çok şey kazandırdı, kişiliğine büyük saygı duydum. Benim gibi çizer olan, benden çok daha cesaretli bir çizer olan Nuri Hoca'ya yapılan karşısında duygularımı ifade etmekte bu kadar gecikmem affedilesi değil, biliyorum, ama artık duygu ve düşüncelerimi ifade etme ihtiyacını duyduğum o kadar çok şey var ki yetişemiyorum. Turkey is a mess these days, and this blog is not the place to discuss it. But a friend and colleague who has received 11 months and 40 days for a political cartoon is! The court has softened the blow by postponing the sentence for five years; if he "behaves", he will escape the sentence. The aim is to break the artist's pencil!
Nuri Kurtcebe is a cartoonist of long standing in Turkey, a patriot, an artist with great integrity, and a truly honest human being. I know because I met him, and worked with him. When I started teaching animation at Maltepe University, Istanbul, he was already there teaching cartooning. We developed a good rapport and I gained a lot from my acquaintance with this artist who puts his conscience and convictions before everything else. It's a poor show of solidarity that I took so long to put my thoughts and feelings in writing on the subject; after all, we had heard about it on the news way back on February 1st. The truth is, there are so many things that are terribly wrong happening here now that I just can't catch up! Kurtcebe is an artist with a pencil, like I am, an artist much braver than I am, and the least I can do is to express my concern and respect.
