1990'da evlendik, 1991'de animasyon test sistemi (pencil test) kurmak bahanesiyle ilk video kameramı aldım- ve bir de baktım ki yaşadıklarımızı, gezip gördüklerimizi, kısacası ortak hayatımızın en renkli anlarını kaydetmek çok güzel bir şeymiş! Şimdi Lâle'yle sık sık kahvelerimizi alıyoruz ve anılardan birini koyup seyrediyoruz; zaten artık adı "En Güzel Film" oldu aramızda!
Sesle, hareketle kaydedilmiş bir şey, bir fotoğraftan çok farklı. O günü tekrar yaşıyorsunuz, kaydettiklerinizin yanında kaydetmediklerinizi de hatırlamanıza yardımcı oluyor. Üstelik çaktırmadan da çok güzel bir eğitim oluyor; sahnelerin uzunluğu, arka arkaya gelince etkileri, açılar, kompozisyonlar, hepsini deniyorsunuz ve sonuçları görüyorsunuz. Sonradan montaj yapmaya vakit ayıramayacağımı bildiğim için son montajı daha çekerken oluşturmaya çalışıyorum, bu da beni bu konularda sürekli karar vermeye zorluyor. Üstelik oradan oraya koşarak, bir yerlere yatıp bir duvarlara tırmanarak spor da yapmış oluyorum!

We were married in 1990, and in 1991 I srarted setting up my first pencil test system and bought my first camcorder for that purpose. Then I discovered what a great thing it was to record our travels, experiences, the highlights of our life together with movement and sound. Lâle and I frequently sit back with cups of coffee and relax watching this or the other chapter of our mutual life; we've already given the collection the title: "The Best Film of All"!
It's so much more than a photograph- the recorded image with motion, sound, and cutting allows you almost to relive the day; you even recall details you haven't recorded! Another plus is that it's a practical and almost unconscious education in filmmaking; you learn about how long to stay on a shot, how to compose a scene, the different angles you can choose, how the shots look in continuity, and on and on. You just try it all and see how it looks! These questions are always on my mind because, since I know I'll never have the time to edit anything afterwards, I try to do my editing right there and then while I'm shooting! It also keeps me on my toes because I keep climbing up walls and throwing myself on the ground to get the best shot I can.
