YENİYIL-2022-NEWYEAR

İkinci pandemi senesinden sonra bu seneki yeni yıl resminin konusu da bu olacak gibi gözüküyordu. Derken "Metaverse" ile karşılaştım. Bu yeni kavramla tanışmam bir Russel Brand videosuyla oldu. (Bkz: "Hang On... It's a TRAP!!!" ) Videoda Facebook'un Mark Zuckerman'ı yeni sanal gerçeklik evreni projesini zuckere bandırıp tatlandırarak satmaya çalışıyordu, bizi çepeçeve sararak köle edebilecek Matrix'vari bir âlem, Prof. Yuval Harari'nin Homo Deus'una yakışacak distopik bir gelecek, artık modası geçen eski Tanrı'nın yarattığının ötesinde bir evren yartabilen Homo Deus, "Tanrı İnsan"! Dehşete düştüm, ama artık yeni yıl resmimiz için bir temam olmuştu!

İnternette sanal gerçeklik görselleri ararken, garip gözlüklerini bir yana bırakırsak, herkesin ne şık ve bakımlı göründüğünü farkettim. Yaratılan bu sanal gerçeğin ötesine bakmak, olmayan sanal bir evrene taşınarak tozsuz mükemmel bir âlemde bir kahraman bir dolanmanın gerçek dünyadaki  bedeli olan kaçınılmaz pejmürdeliği, ucuz yemekleri ve sefil alışkanlıkları gözler önüne sermek istedim.

Duvara raptiyelenmiş resimler gelecekte karşı karşıya kalabileceğimiz tehlikelere karşı bizi uyaran kurgu bilim filmlerin afişleridir. Tabii Matrix var (1999), ve Metropolis (1927), 1984 (1984, pencerenin yanındaki çerçeveli resimdeki adamı da yazarı George Orwell niyetiyle çizdim), Logan's Run ("Logan'ın Kaçışı", 1976; çiplenen bebekler) ve Zardoz ("Taş Tanrı Zardoz", 1974; ölümsüz insanlar- Mark Zuckerberg'in de hedefi).

Soylent Green ("Açlık", 1973) ise 2022'de geçiyor!

Bu seneki yeni yıl resmi!/ Our new year's picture for this year.

 

ENGLISH:

After a second year of the "Pandemic", it seemed inevitable that it would be the theme of this year's new year message as well. But then I became aware of the "Metaverse". I ran into the concept on a Russel Brand video. (See: "Hang On... It's a TRAP!!!" ) There I saw Facebook's Marc Zuckerberg's coating a new virtual reality universe project with zucker, an unsettling illusory world that can potentially surruond and enslave us à la Matrix! A vision befitting the dystopic future of prof. Yuval Harari's Homo Deus, "Man as God" who can create a universe beyond the one created by a God now fallen out of fashion! I was horrified, but I had my theme!

Checking out virtual reality images on the internet, I noticed how dynamic and well-kempt everybody looked- barring the goofy goggles of course. I decided to see through virtual reality and show the inevitable reality of moving into an unreal virtual world- a squalid existence of cheap food and unsalubrious habits while one drifts around as a handsome hero in a dust-free alternative reality.

The posters pinned on the wall are images of films that have warned us of the horrors that may come upon us if we don't watch out- Matrix (1999) of course, and also Metropolis (1927), 1984, (1984, the framed picture next to the window is meant to be author George Orwell), Logan's Run (where babies are chipped) and Zardoz (1974, search for immortality, also a Zuckerberg quest!)

Soylent Green (1973) was set in 2022!

SAYGI KUŞAĞI'NDA SÖYLEŞİ/ CHAT ON A TRIBUTES PROGRAM

İstanbul 9. Canlandıranlar Festivali'ni düzenleyenler "Saygı Kuşağı" kapsamında benimle bir söyleşi gerçekleştirdiler. Ortalıkta malum bir virüsün dolaşıyor olması nedeniyle dinleyiciler karşısına fiziksel varlığımla çıkamadım. (Aşı yaptırmamam işi kolaylaştırmıyordu tabii!) Ama buna karşılık internet üzerinden kaydedilen bu söyleşiyi yayından önce görsellerle zenginleştirme şansım oldu. Telif hakkı kapsamına giren çalışmaları paylaşamamam bir sıkıntıydı, nihayet canlandırma sanatçılarının hayatlarını kazanmak için çalıştıkları proje ve karakterlerin telif hakları başkalarının elindedir!

Konuşmayı daha fazla görsel ekleyebileceğim şekilde yönlendirmeye çalıştım, bu arada telif hakkı problemlerine takılmayacak çalışmalarımı da dahil edebilmeyi amaçladım. Hatta biraz "cheating" ile konuşmamı uzattım! (Hırka düğmelerim ele veriyor, daha fazla birşey söylemeyeceğim!)

ENGLISH:

The organizers of the 9th "Canlandıranlar" (literally "Those who Give Life") Festival in Istanbul interviewed me within the scope of their "Tributes" program. Because of a certain virus going around I couldn't be physically present before a live public. (It doesn't help that I refuse to get the shots!) But having this chat pre-recorded online gave me a chance to enrich it with visuals before it was made public. Not being able to share copyrighted work was a disatvantage though, seeing as animators make a living by working on projects and characters copyrighted by others!
I tried to steer some of the interview in a direction where I could provide visuals, including work that risked no copyright entanglements. I even extended the talk with some cheating! (The buttons of my sweater give away the game, I won't say anything else about that!)

BÜLENT TURAN, PSA

Ressam Bülent Turan’ı 19 Nisan 2021’de kaybettik. (Hayır Korona değil, kâlp!)

Bülent ve Sedef Turan çifti ile tanışıklığımız bir yazlık komşuluğu ile başlamıştı.

Bülent bey ressamdı, ama biz ve çoğu arkadaşımız gibi bir endüstriye bağlı çalışan değil, yağlıboya ve pastel tablolar yapan, sergilere katılan bir ressamdı.

Bülent bey’in eserlerini eşim ve ben seviyorduk çünkü bizim dünyamızdan uzak değildi. Bizi sergi salonlarından kaçıran birçok “çağdaşlarından” farklı olarak görmekten zevk aldığımız, en başta ne gördüğümüzü anladığımız eserler üretiyordu, “resim” yapıyordu yani.

Yurt içi ve yurdışında eserlerini sergilemiş, ABD’de kendisini üyeliğe kabul eden Pastel Society of America tarafından imzalarına PSA harflerini ekleme yetkisi verilmiş. Ben de bu yazının başında ekledim.

Bülent ve Sedef Turan çifti son derece sıcak ve içten oldukları gibi görüş ve zevkler bakımından bize yakın insanlardı. Evlerini bize o kadar yakın bir zevkle döşemişlerdi ki bazen kendimizi kendi mekânımızda gibi hissediverirdik. Muhabbetlerinin verdiği rahatlığın da katkısı olmuştur muhakkak.

Bülent bey’in kaybıyla hayatımızın renklerinden biri daha gitti. Keşke daha sık görüşseydik diyeceğim; yaşadıkça da o kadar çok “keşke” birikiyor ki…!

We lost the painter Bülent Turan on April 19th, 2021. (No, not Covid- heart failure!)

Our friendship with the couple Bülent and Sedef Turan goes back to being neighbours in a summer resort.

Mr. Turan was an artist. Unlike us and many of our friends who have applied our art to an industry, Mr. Turan created his oil and pastel paintings with the aim to exhibit.

We appreciated the paintings of Mr. Turan because we found them to be closer to our understanding of Art. Unlike many of his contemporaries who drove us away from the galleries, he made paintings we enjoyed looking at, and a precondition for that was that we understood what we were looking at; he was creating “pictures” pure and simple.

He exhibited at home and abroad with distinction, becoming a member of the Pastel Society of America, from which he has obtained the right to add the letters “PSA” after his name- as I have done at the beginning of this article.

Bülent and Sedef Turan were a couple who projected warmth and sincerity, and their views and tastes largely coincided with ours. Their home was furnished in a taste so close to our own that we sometimes felt we were in our own domain. The relaxed tone of their conversation must have contributed to the effect.

 

With the departure of Mr. Bülent Turan we have irretrievably lost another color in our lives. I am moved to say “if only we had seen them more frequently”; the longer we live, the more life fills up with these “if only”’s!

SÜPER 2ZLER x 4 - SUPERTWINS x 4

TÜRKÇE:

2zler Emre ve Sina 4 yaşını doldurdu- zaman uçuyor! Ve doğum günlerinden beri bir ay geçti bile- zaman daha da hızlı uçuyor!

Uçan sadece zaman değil, süper kahramanlara merak salan 2zler de uçuyorlar. Hatta duyduk ki bütün aile omuzlarından çarşaf sarkıtarak oradan oraya uçuyorlarmış! Doğal olarak bu senenin teması o oldu! Lâle renklere yardım etti tabii!

Süperlâle ve Süpertavşan'ı ilâve etmek sonradan aklıma geldi; figürleri bilgisayarda birleştirdiğim için bu sene bir bigisayar çıktısı vermek durumunda kaldım. (Önceki senelerde verdiklerim de tam orijinal sayılmazdı; kurşun kalemi fotokopileyip onu kuruboyayla renklediriyordum.)

Lâle o kadar havasına girdi ki bir "Süperlâle" kıyafeti yaratarak kendini buldu, bu şekilde birkaç fotoğraf çektik. Arkadaşımız Murat (Çelik) resimleri görünce kendi yaratıcı katkılarıyla Süperlâle'yi uçurdu!

ENGLISH:

The twins Emre and Sina are four years old now- time flies! And it has been more than a month since their birthday- time flies even faster!

And it's not only time that flies; the twins are totally into super heroes so they are flying too! We have even heard that the whole family is flying about with bedsheets dangling from their shoulders! Naturally, thet became the theme of this year's birthday picture! Lâle helped with the colors, of course!

Lâle really entered the spirit of things, conjuring a costume and finding her true self as "Superlâle", and I took a few photos of her like that. The photos inspired our friend Murat (Çelik) to really send Lâle flying!
